King John's Castle

King John's Castle is a 13th-century castle on King's Island in Limerick, beside the River Shannon, built on the orders of King John of England from about 1200 on a site first settled by Vikings. Its curtain walls and towers withstood five sieges in the 17th century, and a visitor centre with exhibitions tells the castle's history.
