Landesmuseum Mainz

The Landesmuseum Mainz traces its collection to 1803, when Napoleon and Jean-Antoine Chaptal donated paintings to the city. Housed since 1937 in the former electoral stables, it holds works spanning prehistoric Venus figurines and Roman sculpture to Baroque furnishings and 19th- and 20th-century paintings, including pieces by Picasso and Hans Baldung Grien.
