Mycenae
Mycenae, about 25 km north of Nafplio, is the hilltop citadel that gave its name to the Mycenaean civilisation of about 1600 to 1100 BC. Visitors enter through the Lion Gate in the Cyclopean walls and see the royal grave circle and the palace remains, while the Treasury of Atreus, a domed tomb, lies outside the walls. A site museum shows finds from the excavations.
