Tōshōdai-ji

Tōshōdai-ji is a Buddhist temple in Nara, head temple of the Ritsu school, founded in 759 by the Chinese monk Jianzhen (Ganjin). Its single-storey Golden Hall with a hipped tiled roof dates from the 8th century, and the Lecture Hall is a building moved from Heijō Palace; both stand in a gravel courtyard among pines.
