Bronx Zoo

The Bronx Zoo covers 107 hectares of Bronx Park on both banks of the Bronx River and opened in 1899 with 843 animals. Its original Beaux-Arts pavilions are grouped around Astor Court and the circular sea lion pool. The zoo is run by the Wildlife Conservation Society, which began here and helped save the American bison from extinction.
