Carisbrooke Castle
Carisbrooke Castle is a medieval castle on a hill above Carisbrooke village, just south-west of Newport on the Isle of Wight, begun around 1100 by Richard de Redvers on a site probably fortified in Saxon times. King Charles I was held prisoner here in 1647–48. Visitors walk the walls, see the well-house with its donkey wheel and visit the castle museum.
