Chateau-sur-Mer

Chateau-sur-Mer was built in 1852 for the China trade merchant William Shepard Wetmore and enlarged in the 1870s by Richard Morris Hunt. The granite house on Bellevue Avenue shows High Victorian architecture, furniture, wallpapers and stencilled decoration, and was the largest residence in Newport before the Vanderbilt houses.
