Fort Napoleon

Fort Napoleon is a polygonal brick fort in the dunes on Ostend's east bank, built in 1811 on Napoleon's orders against a British landing. German troops used it in both world wars; after a restoration by the Flemish heritage association it opened to visitors in 2000, with a story trail through its casemates, courtyard and roof.
