About Ottawa

Ottawa is Canada's capital, on the Ottawa River opposite Gatineau, Quebec, with Parliament Hill above the water. Parliament Hill's grounds are open to walk, and tours visit the House of Commons in the West Block while the Centre Block is rebuilt. The Rideau Canal runs through the centre to the river. The National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Nature are within the city, and the Canadian Museum of History faces Parliament across the river. The ByWard Market has stalls and restaurants, and Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica stands nearby. Rideau Hall, the Governor General's residence, has public grounds.
