Waimangu Volcanic Valley

Waimangu Volcanic Valley, about 20 km south-east of Rotorua, is the hydrothermal valley created by the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886. A walking track runs down past Frying Pan Lake, one of the largest hot springs on earth, the pale blue Inferno Crater Lake and steaming cliffs to Lake Rotomahana, where boat cruises pass the former site of the Pink and White Terraces.
