About San Antonio
San Antonio grew around the Spanish missions of the 1700s, with the Alamo and the River Walk at the heart of its downtown. The Alamo stands on Alamo Plaza a block from the River Walk, a path of shops and restaurants one level below the streets along the San Antonio River. The other four missions of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park lie to the south, and the Tower of the Americas rises over HemisFair Park. The San Antonio Museum of Art, the Witte Museum, the zoo and the Japanese Tea Garden sit north of the centre. Two or three days cover the centre.
