Shepton Mallet Prison

Shepton Mallet Prison in Somerset opened in 1625 as a house of correction and was rebuilt and extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the Second World War it served as a military prison and stored documents such as the Domesday Book. When it closed in 2013 it was the oldest prison still in use in the United Kingdom; it now opens for tours and has a museum.
