Shrewsbury Prison

Shrewsbury Prison stands beside the railway station in Shrewsbury. A prison was first built here in 1793 by Thomas Telford to plans by John Hiram Haycock, and the present Victorian building dates from 1877, on top of the Georgian remains. It closed as a prison in March 2013 and is now open for guided and self-guided tours of the wings and cells.
