Castle of the Moors

The Castle of the Moors is a hilltop fortress above Sintra, built in the 8th and 9th centuries during Muslim rule and taken by Christian forces after the conquest of Lisbon in 1147. Its battlements run along the granite outcrops of the Sintra hills; the walls were restored in the 19th century under King Ferdinand II.
