Skaftafellsjökull

Skaftafellsjökull is an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, a tongue about 10 km long between the Skaftafellsheiði heath and the mountain Hafrafell in Vatnajökull National Park. The S1 trail, a 4.1 km loop from the Skaftafellsstofa visitor centre, leads to the meltwater lagoon at its front past moraines and kettle holes. Going onto the ice needs a guide.
