Svartifoss

Svartifoss is a waterfall in Skaftafell, in Vatnajökull National Park, that drops over a cliff of dark, mostly hexagonal basalt columns. The columns formed about 300,000 years ago when lava filled an old riverbed and split as it cooled. It is reached on foot from the Skaftafellsstofa visitor centre on trail S2, which also passes Hundafoss and Magnúsarfoss.
