Basianshan National Forest Recreation Area lies in Heping District in the mountains east of Taichung, at the foot of 2,366-metre Basian Mountain, which was one of Taiwan's three great logging areas under Japanese rule. Trails follow streams and old logging routes through forest, with a visitor centre near the entrance gate.
