Temple of Poseidon

The Temple of Poseidon in Taranto is regarded as the oldest Greek temple in Magna Graecia and dates from the early 6th century BC. Two Doric columns, 8.47 metres high, and the base of a third remain in Piazza Castello in the old town. The attribution to Poseidon dates from the 19th century; scholars now link it to a goddess such as Persephone or Hera.
