Ueno Zoo

Ueno Zoo, opened in 1882 inside Ueno Park, is Japan's oldest zoo and is run by the Tokyo Zoological Park Society. Its 14 hectares are split into an East Garden and a West Garden joined by the Aesop Bridge, holding more than 2,000 animals of several hundred species; the East Garden also contains the five-storey pagoda of the former Kan'ei-ji temple.
