Convent of Christ

The Convent of Christ in Tomar began as a 12th-century castle of the Knights Templar and became the seat of the Order of Christ in 1357. Its round Templar church, the Charola, is joined to a nave covered in Manueline carving by Diogo de Arruda and João de Castilho. The complex has several cloisters and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
