The Belfry of Tournai is a 72-metre bell tower on the Grand-Place, begun around 1188 after King Philip Augustus granted the town the right to a communal bell, raised in 1294 and given a carillon in 1535. It served as watchtower and town prison; 257 steps lead past the cells and the carillonneur's room, and visitors currently climb as far as the first terrace.

Tournai Cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Tournai, built of local blue-grey stone from the 12th century: a Romanesque nave, a transept with five bell towers 83 metres high and a Gothic choir of 1242–1255. On the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000, it has been restored in stages since a tornado in 1999 and stays open during the works; its treasury is visited separately.

The Pont des Trous is a fortified water gate across the Scheldt in Tournai, part of the town's 13th-century walls: the Bourdiel tower on the left bank dates from 1281 and the Thieulerie tower on the right bank from 1302–1304. Its arches, blown up in 1940 and rebuilt higher in 1948, were taken down and rebuilt wider for shipping between 2019 and 2023.
