Villa Panza is an 18th-century villa on the Biumo hill in Varese, built for the Menafoglio family and enlarged by Luigi Canonica for the Litta. Giuseppe Panza di Biumo filled it with contemporary art and donated it to the FAI in 1996; visitors see about 150 works, including rooms of light by Dan Flavin, James Turrell and Robert Irwin, and the formal garden.

historic site · Gornate-Olona Torba Abbey grew around a late Roman watchtower of the Castelseprio fort in the Olona valley. In the 8th century Benedictine nuns turned the tower into an oratory and built a church and convent; frescoes of the nuns survive on its upper floor. Part of the UNESCO site of the Lombards in Italy, it was the first FAI property and opened to visitors in 1986.
