Pont du Gard
The Pont du Gard is a Roman aqueduct bridge built in the first century AD to carry water across the Gardon river to the city of Nemausus, today's Nîmes. Its three tiers of limestone arches stand 48.8 metres high; it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, and the visitor site beside it includes a museum on the aqueduct.
