Vianden Castle stands on a rocky spur above the town of Vianden and the River Our. Built between the 11th and 14th centuries on the site of a Roman fort and a Carolingian refuge, it was the seat of the counts of Vianden, fell into ruin after 1820 and has been restored since the state took it over in 1977; its chapel, palaces and halls can be visited.

Old St Lawrence's Church in Diekirch stands on the walls of a Roman hall, on which a church was first built in the 6th or 7th century. Enlarged in 1467 with two Gothic naves and vaults, it keeps 15th-century frescoes of St Lawrence and St Eligius, and Roman and Merovingian sarcophagi in the crypt. It was the parish church until 1868.
