Castro Fortress

The Castro Fortress crowns O Castro hill in the centre of Vigo. It was built from 1665, during the war with Portugal, as part of a defensive system with the San Sebastián fort and a town wall, and was taken by British forces in 1719. Its surviving walls now enclose a park and a viewpoint over the city and the Ría de Vigo.
