Rocca Maggiore

The Rocca Maggiore is the medieval fortress on the hilltop above Assisi, first recorded in the 1170s and rebuilt in the 14th century for Cardinal Albornoz after the townspeople razed it in 1198. Visitors walk through its rooms and keep and along a long wall walk to a polygonal tower, with views over the town and the Umbrian valley.
