Stone Mountain Park

Stone Mountain Park lies about 25 km east of downtown Atlanta around Stone Mountain, a granite dome rising some 250 metres above the surrounding land. The state of Georgia bought it in 1958 as a memorial to the Confederacy, and its north face bears a carving of three Confederate leaders, completed in 1972. A trail and a cable car lead to the summit, and the park has lakes and woods.
