Convento de San José

The Convento de San José is the first convent founded by Teresa of Ávila, in 1562, and still houses an enclosed community of Discalced Carmelite nuns. Its church, begun in 1607 to designs by Francisco de Mora, has a three-arched porch that became the model for Carmelite façades. A small museum shows relics and objects linked to Saint Teresa.
