Walls of Ávila

The Walls of Ávila enclose the old town in a granite circuit of about 2.5 km, with 87 towers and nine gates. Begun in Roman times and rebuilt from the late 11th century, they stand about 12 m high and 3 m thick. Some 1.7 km of the wall walk is open to visitors, entered at the Casa de las Carnicerías, the Puerta del Alcázar and the Puerta del Puente.
