Château de Brest

The Château de Brest stands on a rock at the mouth of the Penfeld river, on a site fortified since a Roman fort of the late 3rd century. Its medieval towers and Vauban's 17th-century defences still serve the French Navy as the seat of the maritime prefecture, while part of the castle houses the Brest branch of the Musée national de la Marine.
