Charleston Museum
The Charleston Museum, founded in 1773, calls itself the oldest museum in the United States. Its building on Meeting Street shows the natural and cultural history of the South Carolina Lowcountry, from fossils and Native American artefacts to Charleston silver, textiles and the history of slavery and the Civil War. It also runs two historic houses, the Heyward-Washington and Joseph Manigault houses.
