St. Philip's Church
St. Philip's Church on Church Street serves the oldest Anglican congregation in South Carolina, founded in 1680. The present stuccoed brick church was built in 1835-1838, with a tall steeple completed in 1850 that long served as a landmark for ships entering the harbour. Its two churchyards hold the graves of John C. Calhoun and signers of the Constitution.
