Now onHOFTEATRET – HISTORIEN OG MODELLEN
Permanent
In the middle of the foyer of Hofteatret you can study a large installation built around a model of Hofteatret as it looked when it opened in 1767. The model was designed and built by set designer Christian Tom-Petersen. His extensive and detailed work on the model took place over several years. It is not just a meticulous and highly detailed model; it captures the whole historical atmosphere of the absolutist Hofteatret. At the same time you can see – in digital animations – and read a great deal about Hofteatret as a baroque theatre typical of the 18th century and the rebuilt auditorium of 1842, as well as about Hofteatret's colourful and changeable cultural history.

SPIL-SELV-TEATER
Den politiske kandestøber is the inspiration for the new play-it-yourself theatre on Hofteatret's stage. The play-it-yourself theatre consists of a series of fascinating costumes whose design language refers back to the 1720s and the comedy's various roles, while at the same time differing from traditional costumes in materials and design. Visitors can put on the costumes and play along in them, in the roles, on the stage.

HOFTEATRETS SCENOGRAFI
When Hofteatret was forcibly closed in 1881 because of the fire risk, all its fittings disappeared, including the flats and scenery. Now the theatre painter David Drachmann has designed, painted and produced an entirely new set for Hofteatret's stage, where the old stage floor has been uncovered and given its due once more. The new set is built according to the dimensions and proportions known in the baroque theatre of the 18th century. It is not a baroque set, but it creates the experience and atmosphere of a historical stage space as it looked in the heyday of the baroque theatre.

Teater til tiden
Around Hofteatret's stage, balcony corridors and niches you encounter the new exhibition Teater til tiden, spanning 300 years. Teater til tiden begins with Ludvig Holberg's comedy Den politiske kandestøber, which for generations has been a classic of Danish theatre history. Each display case presents a production and a snapshot of Danish theatre history. Teater til tiden is not an exhibition about the theatre's canonised classics, but about well-known and lesser-known examples of productions that had something to say about and to the time in which they were created. The exhibition consists of 17 productions through time, 17 snapshots, 17 specially designed display cases, placed around Hofteatret in dialogue with the historical interiors and the 18th-century design language, yet discreet and subdued in their choice of materials and clearly distinct from them.
