Spanish Arch

The Spanish Arch is one of two surviving arches of a 1584 extension of Galway's city wall, built to protect the quays where the River Corrib meets the sea. The arches were opened in the 18th century to give access to the Long Walk quay and were partly destroyed by the 1755 Lisbon tsunami.
