castle · Garmisch-Partenkirchen A ruined hilltop castle above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, built between about 1180 and 1230 and from 1249 the administrative seat of the Prince-Bishopric of Freising's County of Werdenfels. Abandoned after 1632, its stone was later quarried for local churches, and what remains today are sections of the outer wall and the base of its keep.
