İstiklal Avenue

İstiklal Avenue is a 1.4-kilometre pedestrian street in Beyoğlu, running from Tünel Square to Taksim Square. Known as the Grande Rue de Péra, it was renamed after the founding of the Republic in 1923. Late Ottoman buildings line it, holding shops, cafés, cinemas, churches and arcades such as the Çiçek Pasajı, and a heritage tram runs along it.
