Kalmar Castle

Kalmar Castle stands on the shore of Kalmarsund, where a defensive tower was built around 1180. King Magnus Ladulås surrounded it with a curtain wall and round towers in the late 13th century, the Kalmar Union was formed here in 1397, and the Vasa kings rebuilt it as a Renaissance palace in the 16th century. Visitors see the royal halls, the chapel and exhibitions.
