Wat Phra Yai

Wat Phra Yai, known in English as the Big Buddha Temple, stands on Ko Phan, a small islet joined to the north-east coast of Ko Samui by a causeway, about 3 km north of the airport. Its 12-metre gold-painted Buddha statue, built in 1972, sits in the Mara posture at the top of a staircase lined with naga serpents.
