The Theatre of Thorikos lies on the southern slope of Velatouri hill, about 3 km north-east of the centre of Lavrio, in the ancient mining deme of Thorikos. First built around 525–480 BC, before the semicircular plan became standard, it has an elongated auditorium of limestone benches around an oval orchestra and held 2,000 to 3,200 people after its 4th-century BC extension.

The Temple of Poseidon stands on Cape Sounion, the southern tip of Attica, about 10 km south of Lavrio. Built in 444–440 BC on the ruins of an earlier temple probably destroyed by the Persians in 480 BC, it keeps a row of Doric marble columns on the headland. Sailors long used it as a landmark and called the cape Kavokolones, the Cape of Columns.
