Connemara National Park covers about 2,000 hectares of mountains, bog, heath, grassland and woodland at Letterfrack in County Galway, including part of the Twelve Bens range. It opened to the public in 1980 on land that was partly the Kylemore Abbey estate. Four marked trails start near the visitor centre, including paths up Diamond Hill.

Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery on a lakeshore near Letterfrack in Connemara, housed in Kylemore Castle, built from 1867 for Mitchell Henry to designs by James Franklin Fuller. Benedictine nuns who had fled Belgium during the First World War founded the abbey in 1920. Visitors see rooms of the house, the Gothic church and a walled garden laid out in 1870.
