The Hunt Museum occupies Limerick's former Custom House, a Palladian limestone building designed by Davis Ducart and completed in 1769. It shows the collection assembled by John and Gertrude Hunt, from prehistoric and medieval objects such as the O'Dea Mitre and Crozier to works by Picasso and Jack B. Yeats, and has been here since 1997.

St Mary's Cathedral is a Church of Ireland cathedral in Limerick, founded in 1168 by Domnall Mór Ua Briain, King of Munster, on the site of his palace near the River Shannon. Visitors see its Romanesque west doorway, a set of carved 15th-century oak misericords, medieval tombs and the graveyard around the church.

King John's Castle is a 13th-century castle on King's Island in Limerick, beside the River Shannon, built on the orders of King John of England from about 1200 on a site first settled by Vikings. Its curtain walls and towers withstood five sieges in the 17th century, and a visitor centre with exhibitions tells the castle's history.

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park lies near Limerick, in the village of Bunratty in County Clare, about 13 km from the city. The 15th-century tower house stands on the site of a Viking trading camp and is furnished as a medieval castle, while the folk park beside it recreates 19th-century rural life with farmhouses, village shops and the Georgian Bunratty House of 1804.
