Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign spells HOLLYWOOD in white letters about 14 metres tall on Mount Lee in the Santa Monica Mountains. Put up in 1923 to advertise a housing development called Hollywoodland, it lost its last four letters in 1949 and was rebuilt in steel in 1978. The sign is fenced off; it is seen from Griffith Park and the streets of Hollywood.
