Old Montreal

Old Montreal is the historic district on the Saint Lawrence River where French settlers founded Fort Ville-Marie in 1642. Quebec declared much of it a historic district in 1964. Its stone streets hold buildings from the New France era onward, among them Notre-Dame Basilica, City Hall, Place Jacques-Cartier and the Old Port.
