About Quebec City
Quebec City is the capital of Quebec, a French-speaking city whose walled old town stands above the St. Lawrence River. Old Quebec is divided into an upper town, with the Château Frontenac, the Dufferin Terrace and the Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral, and a lower town around Place Royale and the Rue du Petit-Champlain. The star-shaped Citadelle is still a military base, and the Plains of Abraham, a battlefield of 1759, are now a park beside it. The Parliament Building stands outside the walls, and two museums cover history and art. Montmorency Falls lies about 12 km to the east.
