Citadel of Saint-Tropez

The Citadel of Saint-Tropez stands on a hill above the town and its gulf. Its hexagonal keep with three round turrets was built from 1602 by the king's engineer Raymond de Bonnefons, and bastioned ramparts and moats followed in the 1620s. Since 2013 the keep has housed the Museum of Maritime History, which tells the story of the town's sailors.
