Tihany Abbey

Tihany Abbey is a Benedictine monastery on the Tihany peninsula overlooking Lake Balaton, founded in 1055 by King Andrew I of Hungary. Its crypt holds his tomb, the only preserved grave of a medieval Hungarian king, and its 1055 founding charter contains the oldest surviving words written in Hungarian. The church ceiling was painted by Károly Lotz.
