Tihany Peninsula
The Tihany Peninsula is Hungary's largest peninsula, projecting into Lake Balaton from its northern shore near Aszófő. Shaped by volcanic activity around 25,000 years ago, it holds two crater lakes, the Belső-tó and the Külső-tó, and more than a hundred geyser cones, the largest known as the Aranyház. In 1952 it became Hungary's first protected landscape area.
