Eldheimar
Eldheimar is a museum on Heimaey about the 1973 eruption that forced the island's 5,300 inhabitants to leave overnight and buried about 400 homes and businesses under lava and ash. Its centrepiece is the house at Gerðisbraut 10, dug out of the tephra after some 40 years; a second exhibition covers the Surtsey eruption of 1963–1967.
