Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial honours the civil rights leader on the northwest shore of the Tidal Basin and opened in 2011. Its design follows a line from his "I Have a Dream" speech: visitors pass through the Mountain of Despair to the Stone of Hope, a granite figure of King by Lei Yixin. A curved wall carries quotations from his speeches and writings.
