Marienberg Fortress

Marienberg Fortress overlooks Würzburg from a hill above the Main river, its oldest surviving parts dating to the early 11th century. From 1253 to 1719 it was the residence of the Würzburg prince-bishops, before they moved into the newly built Residence. It now houses the Museum für Franken, with collections including Tilman Riemenschneider sculptures, and the Fürstenbaumuseum.
